We in the United States are starting our 4th of July holiday, also known as Independence Day. And like any holiday, what is it all about? Since the Declaration of Independence was adopted on July 4, 1776, this holiday weekend, Americans are celebrating freedom. The Fourth of July is considered the birthday of the United States of America, so it’s time to party, and picnic and play.
But Independence Day is not the only day to celebrate freedom, emancipation or independence. Learn the history of some of the other celebration in the article "When Do You Celebrate Freedom, Emancipation or Independence Day?"
there’s a talk radio station that has a segment called “Free Your Mind Friday”. It’s especially pertinent today as we go into the American freedom celebrating holiday. But free your mind is actually more to the point. As individuals we can be free my mastering ourselves. It was an incredible demonstration and victory for Nelson Mandela to emerge from years of imprisonment in his right mind and without bitterness. Mastering oneself is true freedom.
“For to be free is not merely to cast off one’s chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.”
Nelson Mandela
